The summer holidays are in full swing, and if you’re a parent of little ones, you might be feeling equal parts joyful and exhausted. With just a few more weeks to go, you may be wondering how to keep everyone entertained (and yourself sane) without running out of snacks, energy, or patience. At Basking Babies, we’ve got your back with some top tips.

1. Keep a loose routine

As tempting as it is to let go of structure, little ones still benefit from some routine. Try to keep meals, naps, and bedtimes relatively consistent. A steady rhythm can help calm the chaos and make days feel a bit more manageable.

2. Embrace the simple things

You don’t need big days out or complicated crafts. Water play in the garden, a living room picnic, or collecting leaves and sticks on a short walk can all be little adventures in disguise. Remember, simple often wins.

3. Think in pockets of time

Rather than filling every moment, aim for just one planned activity or outing per day. The rest can be unstructured play, rest, or some screen time (no guilt allowed!) Spacing things out helps everyone pace themselves.

4. Don’t forget yourself

Whether it’s five minutes with a cup of tea, a quiet shower, or a short walk on your own, grab moments of calm where you can. Your needs matter too, and a little reset can go a long way.

5. You’re not alone

If you’re feeling touched-out or talked-at, you’re definitely not the only one. Reach out to a fellow parent, join a local Basking Babies class or event, or just message a friend to share how it’s really going. Community makes all the difference.

You've got this

These next few weeks don’t need to be perfect to be meaningful. There will be highs and lows (and probably lots of crumbs), but also laughter, hugs, and memories being made... even if they’re a little messy.
