Recently I had a lovely experience working with a family and their two little ones. Their bedroom was overflowing with toys, so many that the children couldn’t even find their Tonies. As a playroom consultant with over 20 years of experience working with children, I often see this - too many toys can overwhelm children, making it hard for them to focus or enjoy what they have.
As we started organising, we found all six Tonies that had been scattered around the house. The moment we gathered them together and set up the Tonie box, something wonderful happened. The children instantly began popping the characters on, singing along, listening to stories, and sharing those joyful little moments together.
It was beautiful to see. I know and love the Toniebox myself, so I could easily join in with them singing, chatting about the stories, and encouraging their imagination. All without a screen in sight.
What I love about the Toniebox is that it does so much more than just play stories. It gently supports speech and language development, helps little ones build their listening and concentration skills, and sparks creativity by letting their minds paint the pictures. It also gives children the freedom to enjoy independent play, as even very young ones can pop a Tonie on all by themselves and dive into their own little world.
At the same time, we continued organising their toys and creating a calmer, more thoughtful space. By the end of our session, the bedroom felt completely transformed. Now it’s a peaceful little haven with just their books and Toniebox, perfect for winding down at bedtime.
Their mum later told me the Tonies are still there in the bedroom. They do wander off now and then, so I suggested a little shelf to keep them all together. I absolutely love when parents come back to me for more ideas or to share how their space is working for them, it’s the simple changes that can make family life feel so much easier and more joyful.
If you’re dreaming of a calmer, more inspiring space for your little ones, I’d love to help. And if you’re wondering about the Toniebox, I believe it’s truly one of the best things you can bring into your home.
